There is often a lack of clarity and understanding in qualitative research issues, and a lack of general understanding of effective qualitative research technique. This webinar will develop an understanding of qualitative research techniques and the increasing importance of reflexivity in research and practice. It will provide an opportunity for discussion around study design, with a focus on Thematic Analysis, IPA and Grounded Theory.

This webinar is suitable for those working in psychology, across all domains at any stage of their career. This includes psychology students (under-graduate, post-graduate, doctoral students) psychological researchers, qualitative researchers and, or post-graduate researchers. 
 

Webinar presenters

Dr Gavin Morgan 
Dr Morgan is an educational psychologist at University College London, where he is an assistant professor across the DECPsy Professional Doctorate, and the CPD DEdPsy Doctorate, he has been in post at UCL since 2008. He has a specialism for qualitative research methods at UCL.Dr Morgan also has a role of Senior Educational Psychologist in Northamptonshire where he has been since 2017; previously Dr Morgan was a Senior Educational Psychologist in Cambridgeshire, for over 12 years. He has a Doctorate in Educational Psychology, and an MEd in Professional Training in Educational Psychology both from the University of Bristol; a PGCE from the University of Leicester, and a BSc (Hons) Psychology. He has worked as an Educational Psychologist with local authorities since 1999, prior to this, he was a school-teacher. 

Dr Morgan is the sole or joint author of a number of articles in professional journals, and has presented his research at a number of professional conferences.  Dr Morgan was is chair-elect of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Educational and Child Psychology, and has been an elected committee member for the past decade, having also been chair in 2019. 

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Morgan has been a member of SPi-B (the Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviour), advising the Government on issues relating to education, psychology and implications for child development and mental health.
