Course overview

This module is part of the BPS Essential knowledge for the expert witness series. The series is made up of 8 modules in total, and we recommend that you complete all 8 modules to maximise your learning. Ideally, the modules should be completed in order. This course provides 75 minutes of learning.

Presented by Susan van Scoyoc CPsychol FBPsS, this series focuses upon the knowledge you need to fulfil your responsibilities and consider the challenges along the way. 

Current case law for psychologists is the eighth in the series and is approximately 75 minutes long.

Learning outcomes

Essential knowledge for the expert witness module 8: Current case law for psychologists

  • Understand the importance of remaining up to date with case law
  • Understand it is acceptable to change one’s view and in what circumstances
  • Understand the latest position of the courts on supervision and consultation with colleagues
  • Recognise what is unacceptable behaviour regarding altering a report
  • Recognise the increasing use of covert recordings during psychological assessments
  • Understand the importance of avoiding bias, including unconscious bias

If you are an HCPC registered practitioner psychologists or those working towards the completion of their accredited training then this series is for you. It is particularly suitable for those considering embarking on practice as an expert witness.
