
Essential knowledge for the Expert Witness: Roles and responsibilities
Learning outcomes
- Understand and be able to explain the importance of maintaining independence as an expert witness
- Understand and be able to explain the different phases of the expert witness duties; the report, the experts meeting, oral evidence
- Be aware of and able to explain the Cresswell Principles of expert evidence
- Understand the importance of being familiar with the court rules (Civil Procedure part 35, Family Proceedings part 25. Criminal Procedure part 19, Court of Protection part 49)
- Be aware of ethical and practice issues often faced by a psychologist acting as an expert witness
Is this course right for me?
The course is intended for HCPC registered practitioner psychologists or those working towards the completion of their accredited training. It is particularly suitable for those considering embarking on practice as an expert witness.
