Decolonising psychological practice: Applying African psychology to go from good to great

There are increasing calls for more training in non-Eurocentric psychology such as African psychology. The over-representation of people of African ancestry in severe mental health settings suggests there is a need to understand the psychology of people of African ancestry from something other than a Eurocentric perspective. Furthermore, the lack of people of African ancestry sustained at high bands within applied psychology professions suggests a psychology which is based on their experiences is needed.

This webinar offers an introduction to the discipline of African psychology, why it is needed and the added value it can bring. It will introduce different schools of African psychology and compare Eurocentric and African psychology paradigms. It will consider issues that may be encountered when working with people of African ancestry, models relevant to the upliftment of people of African ancestry, models explaining particular issues experienced by people of African ancestry and will introduce useful tools.

This on-demand webinar was delivered live in July 2025 and is available in English only. You will have access to the webinar for 8 weeks from purchase.

Once you have watched this on-demand webinar, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
