In higher education, lectures are an integral part of studying, and an educator can deliver a lecture to a diverse cohort of students. This means that they will often use a range of PowerPoint slides alongside different interactive activities. Due to the diversity in the slides, students can struggle to navigate the lectures slides presented and this can mean that the slides are not used as effectively as they could be for coursework or revision. Students may face difficulties in understanding which part of a lecture is the most important and which information is key to understanding the topic covered and the related assessment.

This webinar aims to support students in developing the skills needed to navigate and use lectures effectively. We will consider challenges in relation to the difficulties faced by students alongside key tips on how to use the information presented on the slides. By the end of the webinar, students should have a greater understanding of the different strategies that can be implemented both during live lectures and after the lecture has taken place.

What will I learn?

The learning outcomes for this webinar are to:

  • understand why lectures are important in higher education settings.
  • understand the key strategies that can be used when in a live or recorded lecture.
  • evaluate the current techniques used (by the attendees themselves) and how these techniques could be updated.
  • understand where to go for extra support with lecture slides and resources.
