Course overview

This module is part of the BPS Essential knowledge for the expert witness series. The series is made up of 8 modules in total, and we recommend that you complete all 8 modules to maximise your learning. Ideally, the modules should be completed in order.

Presented by Susan van Scoyoc CPsychol FBPsS, this series focuses upon the knowledge you need to fulfil your responsibilities and consider the challenges along the way. 

Contracting and instructions is the second module in the series and it is approximately 60 minutes long.

Is this course right for me?

This series is intended for HCPC registered practitioner psychologists, Chartered Members or those working towards the completion of their accredited training. This module is particularly suitable for those considering embarking on practice as an expert witness.

 
Learning Objectives 

Essential knowledge for the expert witness Module 3: The assessment 

  • Understand how an expert witness assessment might be different from your clinical work
  • Be able to consider issues of consent in an expert witness context
  • Be aware of your role as an expert witness - not the treating clinician 
  • Know the importance of keeping records
  • Consider use of validity scales 
  • Understand how to handle errors
