Beyond the Manual: Integrating Values-Based Practice (VBP) into Clinical Decision-Making (13 October 2026)
|
In modern psychological practice, evidence-based guidelines provide the 'what' and the 'how' of interventions, but they often leave a gap when navigating complex, real-world clinical dilemmas. Values-Based Practice (VBP) bridges this gap. It is a clinical framework designed to support balanced, person-centred decision-making when conflicting values arise – whether those values belong to the client, the clinician, the institution, or the broader culture. This webinar is being delivered in conjunction with the Collaborating Centre for Values Based Practice at St. Catherine's in Oxford. |

What will I learn?
The learning outcomes for this webinar are to:
- identify and define the core principles of Values-Based Practice (VBP) and how they differ from, yet complement, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP);
- analyze clinical scenarios to uncover the implicit and explicit values held by the client, the clinician, and the healthcare system;
- apply a structured VBP framework to resolve clinical impasses where stakeholder values are in direct conflict;
- evaluate the impact of a clinician’s own implicit biases and personal values on diagnostic assessment and treatment planning;
- design a collaborative, person-centered formulation that integrates a client's unique value system into their ongoing care plan.
