It will help you learn how to adapt your approach when with working with autistic people. The course covers psychological assessment, formulations, and how to use psychological theory to most effectively support autistic people.

All three courses can be purchased as a bundle at a discounted price here.

What will I learn?

The learning outcomes for this course are to:

  1. Understand and be able to explain what autism is and be able to identify key characteristics of autism.
  2. Understand what it is like to have autism and describe how people with autism see the world.
  3. Be aware of some of the difficulties autistic people have and potential strengths.
  4. Understand how best to support adults with autism when they need it and consider when different approaches may be most appropriate.

A note on language

There are a range of different ways to describe of describing autistic people and the debate about which language is most appropriate is ongoing. Some prefer to use ‘person first’ language (i.e. adults with autism) whilst others prefer ‘identity first’ language (i.e. autistic adults).

For this course the authors have used a combination of different language. It is always best to ask the individual you are speaking to or working with what language they prefer.
