Appreciating the value of Qualitative Research: Trustworthiness and Credibility (7 February 2025)

Criticism and challenge is often made towards qualitative research that any findings from such an approach lack validity, reliability and generalisability. This webinar will present qualitative research as a completely different approach to research and explain how such terms are unhelpful for us as psychologists.

The webinar will;

  • Consider the key principles in psychological research, such as ‘validity’ and ‘reliability’ and consider how these relate to qualitative research – suggesting that ‘credibility’ and ‘trustworthiness’ are more helpful.
  • Consider the history of qualitative research in psychology and discuss how it may have been marginalised.
  • Present an argument of how qualitative research allows for marginalised voices to be heard.
Whilst not compulsory, you may find it useful to watch the Qualitative research: Technique and reflexivity on-demand webinar ahead of this webinar.
